This is to confirm the arrangement made over the telephone, whereby it was agreed that a Lady Assistant Labour Officer be appointed in Hong Kong at a starting salary of £500 p.a.

Regarding the post of additional Labour Officer which you wrote about in your letter of 6th February, I can agree that such a post should carry the scale £400 to £1,200 p.a. plus residential allowance. I trust, however, that any proposed appointment to this post will be referred to us at an early date, giving the salary figure at which it is suggested that the successful applicant should start.
